{TWO Fabulous} Minnie Mouse 2nd Birthday Party

In the blink of an eye… Claire is TWO!

Claire loves Minnie Mouse, so we celebrated her second birthday with a small Minnie Mouse-themed birthday party at our house.

Can I eat one now?

Last year, for her fabulous flamingo first birthday party, we made most of the decorations. This year, I ordered the main things off of Etsy! It was so much less overwhelming, and came out super cute!

The “Happy Birthday” banner came from Etsy, although apparently the store I got it from no longer exists. I love that it has the Disney font, and the colors were perfect.

Hilarious.

I also got Claire’s super cute, personalized shirt from Etsy. It came from a different store but matched perfectly with her banner and the cups (I didn’t get a good picture of those) that I ordered.

This party was so much fun to plan. Since we had it at our house (and Claire is only 2…) we wanted to keep it small and invited family and a couple of friends. But that didn’t stop me from having fun with the food!

Pinterest has a ton of great ideas for kids’ birthday parties (like I needed another reason to devote all my time to scrolling through pins), so I found a bunch of ideas and saved them to a Minnie Mouse birthday party board. The food was pretty simple, but it was a hit! {I got the designs for the food place cards off Etsy too!}

Donald's Donut Holes

Donald’s Donut Holes were devoured. I got up at 6:00 that Saturday morning to go to a local donut shop for those.

Goofy's Goldfish

Goofy’s Goldfish were almost all gone. Claire loves gold fish. I got the multi-colored version to make it extra special.

Daisy's Garden Veggies

Daisy’s Garden Veggies were delicious … it was just some carrots, celery, broccoli and cucumbers that I got fresh from Publix. With ranch dressing of course!

Figaro's Fancy Fruit

And Figaro’s Fancy Fruit added some more healthy bites to the spread.

Clubhouse Chicken Nuggets

Clubhouse Chicken Nuggets were clearly craved, as not one was left! The chicken nuggets and fruit came from Chick-fil-a (duh).

Mickey's Mac & Cheese

And, of course, we had to have Mickey’s Mac & Cheese, as that is Claire’s favorite food.

Tickle Me Pink Lemonade

We washed it all down with Tickle Me Pink punch. This was raspberry lemonade from Publix.

Oreos - aka Minnie ears

For those of us with a sweet tooth, we had some oreos. But the star of the show was…

Minnie's Amazing Cupcakes

Minnie’s Amazing Cupcakes! Baked by moi, but decorated with the help of a talented friend.

Claire and everyone had a great time swimming in the pool, eating the yummy food … and opening presents, of course!

Then, it was time to eat cupcakes!

This is fun!

All in all, a great birthday party for a great little girl.

Claire’s Flamingo First Birthday Party

This year, Claire’s birthday fell on a Saturday, so we were able to have her party on her actual birthday. And since her birthday is in the middle of summer, we had a pool party!

I had a blast planning and hosting Claire’s Flamingo First Birthday Party. Yes, first birthday parties are more for the parents than the child, but I think she enjoyed herself, too. 🙂

Even though I had absolutely.no.idea about anything related to babies when we had Claire, I knew that I wanted the theme of her first birthday party to be flamingo related. That’s because flamingos were my mom’s favorite things (she had SO.MANY. flamingo things) – and pink is a good color for a girl’s birthday party.

HOLD ON (1)

I spent many (too many?) hours on Pinterest searching for flamingo-related and first birthday-related ideas. You can see my first birthday board here.

Decorations

I didn’t want to spend an exorbitant amount of money, but I did want to have fun with it. All of the decorations were DIY, with the much-appreciated help of one of my very talented friends. We shopped at Hobby Lobby, Target and online for supplies, with a tropical pink and green color scheme.

This is when you first walk into our house. You can see the pink and green paper pom pons.

Here’s the mirror in our sitting room. I used a piece of string, some clothes pins with the numbers 1-2 and pictures to make this banner of Claire’s growth from when she was 1 month to 12 months.

Here’s a look at our pool area. I found the flamingo lights at Michael’s, and the piñata is from Hobby Lobby.

But here’s the show stopper! The kitchen table and nook that had the centerpiece of the decorations: The flamingo pull-apart cupcakes, smash cake and “fun to be one” banner!

it's fun to be one! Here’s a close-up of the flamingo pull-apart cupcakes. These were handmade and hand decorated. I even colored the frosting! Again, so thankful for my friend who helped me!

Food!

Originally, I wanted to make everything myself. But then I decided, a couple of days before the party, that I was going to order Chick-fil-a chicken nuggets. And boy was it worth it! I ordered a medium tray and they were GONE. I did make spinach artichoke dip, and mac and cheese cups. We also had fresh fruit and veggies. And pink lemonade served in pink polka dot cups with flamingo straws! How cute are those. DSC_0526

The Party Experience

The party was in the afternoon, and it began with food, mingling and swimming! Claire wasn’t so sure about all of the people at first, and she had to be held the entire time we were in the pool, but that’s OK!

Then, we got dressed and it was time to open presents! Claire got tired of waiting for us, so she “announced” herself by walking into the kitchen.

She had fun playing with all of her toys. And her grandpa said we are “in trouble” because her reaction to her new dresses was VERY positive. She is a girly girl!

After presents, it was time for CAKE!

First, everyone sang “Happy Birthday,” and Claire just looked around at everyone — and seemed to enjoy the attention being on her.

But once I put the frosting on her lips, she was in love! The girl has a serious sweet tooth. DSC_0604

Here she is going for it…

Then she was ready for more!

The funny thing was, she never really got messy! She wasn’t a fan of having the frosting on her hands. She enjoyed the cake and licking the frosting.

After the cake, it was time for the party to end.

We had a great time, and I’m looking forward to planning more parties for Claire!
