Advent Study Day 17

Scripture: Nehemiah 8:10

Nehemiah said, “Go and enjoy choice food and sweet drinks, and send some to those who have nothing prepared. This day is holy to our Lord. Do not grieve, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.”

Observation

  • Nehemiah is essentially giving permission to enjoy good food with each other. This is after the Levites read the book of the Law to the people, in a clear way, which made them rejoice. This is a verse affirming the desire to fellowship.

Application

  • At our church, the leadership always says we should “do life together.” This is a good verse to remind us that it’s OK to get together with fellow believers and enjoy dinner — and to share food and drinks with those who don’t have anything

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank you for encouraging us to “do life together.” Thank you for bringing believers together so that we may collectively rejoice. Help me to prioritize fellowship throughout 2014, and please help me to see opportunities to meet and rejoice with fellow believers. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
