Advent Study Day 13

Scripture: John 12:35,36

Then Jesus told them, “You are going to have the light just a little while longer. Walk while you have the light, before darkness overtakes you. Whoever walks in the dark does not know where they are going.

Believe in the light while you have the light, so that you may become children of the light.” When he had finished speaking, Jesus left and hid himself from them.

Observation

  • Jesus knew that he was going to die, and when he was going to die. In this passage, he was telling his apostles that he was only going to be around a little while longer.
  • For us, Jesus is giving a warning of urgency. There is limited time to believe in and walk in the life. Our lives are just a vapor, and we have limited time to accept Jesus and to walk in His light.

Application

  • We don’t have the luxury of time on this earth. We don’t know what tomorrow may bring. “Here today, gone tomorrow” is a cliche, but it’s true. When Jesus calls us to him, we should follow. We need to focus on walking in the light — and being the light — while we are here to do that.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, it is only through Jesus that we can come to you. Thank you for sending Him to us, and for your saving grace. Let me value the gift you gave to us, and focus on walking in the light. Help me to also be the light for others, so that through me they would see you. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
