Advent Study Day 5

Scripture: Isaiah 60: 19, 20

The sun shall be no more they light by day; neither for brightness shall the moon give light unto thee: but the Lord shall be unto thee an everlasting light, and thy God thy glory.

Thy sun shall no more go down; neither shall thy moon withdraw itself: for the Lord shall be thine everlasting light, and the days of they mourning shall be ended.

Observation

  • The sun is temporary. It is of the world. True everlasting light comes from the Lord.
  • There will be a day where the sun and the moon won’t exist. At that time, the Lord will be the only light — and there will be no more mourning.

Application

  • It’s easy to get caught up in things of this world. Relying on the sun and lightbulbs for earthly light. Or even putting your focus on other people, your career path and your house and stocking your pantry for the Zombie apocalypse. But all of these things will soon go away. Instead, our true focus and trust should be in the Lord. When everything else is gone, He will be there.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, Thank you for the things you have blessed me with while on this earth, and help me to be a good steward.  But help me to always remember that the things of this world are just temporary. Give me an eternal focus so that I will always put my focus and trust on you. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
