Advent Study Day 3

Scripture: John 1:9-12

That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world.

He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.

He came unto his own, and his own received him not.

But as many received him, to them he gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name.

  • Jesus came to earth — into the world — but the world didn’t know him.
  • He came to his people — the Jewish people — first, but they rejected him.
  • But Jesus also came to save the Gentiles, and to make everyone — not just Jews — who believed in Him the sons of the living God.

  • There are no requirements to be saved by Jesus other than to believe in him and accept him as Lord and Savior. It doesn’t matter your stature in life — your wealth or lack thereof; your job title; your skin color; your lineage. Jesus came to save anyone who receives him. This makes me think about the passage in Matthew 21 about the Canaanite woman. She knew and professed that Jesus had enough for everyone — Jews and Gentiles; the rich and the poor — and trusted that He could heal her demon-possessed daughter. This is a tough thing to understand. For me, I have to know that even at my worst, Jesus still loves me and will take care of me if I trust and believe in him. But also, I have to know that Jesus loves EVERYONE — even the people who hurt me, or the people who are begging for money on the streets.

Heavenly Father, thank you for your grace. Even at my worst, I know that Jesus loves me and has the power to heal me — spiritually, emotionally and physically. Help me to also know that Jesus loves everyone around me, too. Give me the grace to see other as Your children. And give me the strength and courage to share with others the love that you for all of us. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
